Standing in the Eye of the Storm snipit
For the last few days I have wondered what it would take to boost my first book and as usual nothing has come to mind other than what I have already done. I was never one for the spot light and I guess stepping out of my comfort zone isn't going to be easy. Tonight I thought I would post a short portion from Standing in the Eye of the Storm for you to see what the book is like allowing to see what it is about and what type of work that I have been doing. So without further ado, here go.
“Oh, I can’t believe it. You’re going on a date, with Carter Blake, for heaven’s sake. We have to find the perfect outfit for you. Maybe we’ll even stop in and get a manicure, might as well do the whole thing.”
“I want something feminine, something pretty you know?”
“Yeah, I get the picture, understated but glamorous. We’ll find something just right.”
“Come on, let’s go.”
We spent the day at Bateman’s, one of the best local stores we had, and Tangles, where we both ended up getting our hair done by Jonah. He’s one of the most talked-about stylists, he didn’t disappoint. My hair was done in a magnificent upsweep that looked like I had a ton of hair; little curls hung at the sides of my ears and the nape of my neck. The manicure that we had treated ourselves to made me feel like a pampered princess.
“We must get you a dress, that’s next on the list.”
I took long, exaggerated breath trying to collect myself. I could feel butterflies rose in me. Closing my eyes, I continued to take slow, deep breaths. The attempts to calm myself weren’t helping much. I heard a slight giggle from Lilly, which was now stroking my back.
“Oh boy, you got it bad, you’re going on a date not before a firing squad.”
“Lilly, what if I get involved with him? What if I fall hard for him and he leaves when he finds what being in a relationship with me is like?”
“Too late, dear, you already have fallen for him. Give it time, it’s just a date.”
I slowly opened my eyes and took control of myself. The anxiety attacks were terrible, especially when you didn’t know what brought them on.
Lilly, looking especially pretty, smiled and continued to giggle. “I have never seen you like this, and don’t worry. He likes what he saw or he wouldn’t have asked you out. Come on, let’s get you a pretty dress and some shoes to match, and then maybe we’ll get some extras to go with it. Have fun with it, enjoy it, he likes you.”
“Okay, let’s do this.”
Spending most of the afternoon trying on multiple dresses, I settled on a navy blue sheath dress that fitted my body well but still remained conservative. I liked the feel of it, and Lilly insisted on this one. “He’s going to love it, it’s perfect. You couldn’t have found a dress that fit the occasion any better. You’re going to knock him off his feet.”
“Do you think so?”
“You look gorgeous.”
“You can’t hide what’s happened to me, Lilly,” I said to her, despondent.
“You are what you are inside. Come on, think of this as a fresh start, leave the baggage behind. You never know, maybe he’s the one.”
“Whoa, slow down. I haven’t had my first date with him yet, well, not an official one yet anyway.”
“Give him a chance, don’t hide from him. Let him get to know you, give yourself a chance to get to know him.”
Lilly smiled brightly. “Always the optimistic, aren’t you?”
“Always.”

Well that's it for now. Short sweet and to the point. I would post more but I don't want to give away what's going on. Hope you enjoyed it.
Good night all and God Bless
