When you meet Nathan Becker you will see many facets to his life. Without giving the story away, he is a fireman, a first responder in Baltimore. His life started well with good parents gone bad. Although they started as God fearing at the beginning, their lives fell apart while Nathan was yet young.
During the time of his youth he meets the girl next door who becomes his best friend. She becomes his refuge when the storms come in his life. When his mother abandons he and his father it begins to spiral. His mother is a runaway wife and his father becomes a violent alcoholic, leaving him on his own or taking care of his over indulgent father.
He is aided in his life by his grandparents until their death. The most stability he had was with the girl next door (Allison) who he falls in love with. When she leaves him days before their wedding he becomes hardened. Most of his relationships, what few there are, are one night stands.
The days he spends in Baltimore Fire and Rescue doesn't help his demeanor. After seeing repeated deaths and upheavals, his life is numb. His days are spent with his comrades and his canine rescue Crash. The small light he has, his canine buddy, keeps him going and makes his life livable.
After seven years he decides to take a chance and move on, that is until he runs into his first love at her engagement party.
