Fire Chaser Excerpt
Hi All, Thought you would enjoy a little teaser from Fire Chaser that isn't in the look and see on Amazon: Enjoy.
Just a Taste from Fire Chaser :
Her nerves were shot. Her hands shook so much she could barely hold the brush in her
hand. She had taken great pains to get home early from running errands so she would have
plenty of time to get ready for this event. Jack was counting on her, and she couldn’t let him
down. Having finally gotten her hair to a level she could manage, she swept it up into a high,
curled ponytail with sparkling rhinestones hiding the accessories that held it in place. Feeling
stressed, she was thankful Jack was coming for her so she wouldn’t be driving, otherwise she
thought she may end up in the bay.
As she placed the last rhinestone in her hair there was a knock at the door of her hotel
room. “Oh no, it can’t be time for Jack. It’s too early, I’m not even dressed.” She hadn’t
realized she was muttering anything out loud until she opened the door, finding Jack on the
other side.
“Oh yes, Jack is here,” he grinned. Stepping into the room, he carried a garment bag
with him. “And I’m early, please, don’t panic.” As always, Jack was dressed immaculately,
and his hair was perfectly in place. He was the very epitome of a millionaire, and he wore it
well. He looked sleek in his navy blue Armani suit, the deep lavender tie setting off the crisp
white shirt he wore. Always the picture of perfection.
“I didn’t know what you brought with you, so I took it upon myself to get you a little
gift.” Opening the garment bag, she found a royal blue dress that matched his suit perfectly.
The wrap dress was slightly pleated in the skirt, very tasteful for a man to pick out.
Somehow, she felt he had a little help.
“Jack, it’s beautiful, but you didn’t have to do this.”
“I know I didn’t, but I wanted to.” Handing it to her, he grinned and walked away as
she took the garment bag from him. It made her wonder what he was up to when he quietly
walked over and sat in a nearby chair. “Go ahead, put it on. I want to see what it looks like on
you.” She knew the intent wasn’t for her to retreat into the bathroom to change. Looking
down at her feet, she felt incredibly vulnerable with him sitting there staring at her. “I’ll
just… change in here. I’ll only be a minute.”
Turning toward the bathroom, she heard him clear his throat. “Allison, you don’t have
to leave the room. We’re getting married soon. If I can’t touch you, at least I can be in the
same room while you change.” His tone was that of a man who wanted attention. He was
bold, intimidating, and knew what he wanted. She had put him off and he was calling her on
it.
Stuttering didn’t become her, but it was all she could do to get the words from her
mouth. “I... I’m sorry, I just can’t. I’m sorry Jack.” Turning, she walked into the bathroom
quickly, and shut the door behind her. She could hear him take an exasperated breath as she
removed her robe, and pulled the dress from the bag. Jack had patience, but she was afraid
she was stretching it very thin. He was only going to wait so long, and she knew he would
eventually give her an ultimatum. “Allison, come on. I’m no saint, and I’m definitely not a
monk. Give me a little satisfaction here. I’ve waited almost two years. Do you know how
many men do that?”
The agitation was felt through the door, and she knew he was standing in front of it.
Zipping her dress, she pushed her feet into a pair of clear, gem stone pumps, and looked at
herself in the mirror. The heat of the moment caused her cheeks to flush, leaving her with an
uneasy feeling. She felt she was walking into dangerous territory, knowing she was a willing
victim being led to the slaughter. It was her own fault. One of the reasons was very clear to
her as to why she hadn’t let him touch her. She hadn’t left Nathan behind. He was the love of
her life, and if it hadn’t been for her father they would have been married by now. Maybe
they would have had children running around, or maybe they would be just enjoying each
other, at least until they decided the time was right.
She straightened her dress and prepared to leave the bathroom as Jack knocked on the
door. “Allison, you can’t blame me for being a man.”
